the hares

mixed media print installation, 2019

was it only a dream; the air was cold on my face; the pines loomed tall overhead; the hares were taller than me; they were plump & quick; I thought I could be just as fast - if I only tried; everything was in moonlight; bathed silver & blue; overhead the pines were swaying in a breeze; the way they moved made me dizzy & small; I stood in my nightgown on the back porch (I do not own a nightgown); they - the hares - stood six feet tall; the height I would become someday; they looked me in the eyes; their ears perked up; they were waiting; then we were running; and I was just as fast when I tried; and when I woke; I thought I might cry for those hares.
